Singer Eartha Kitt Dies
Eartha Kitt, singer of the Christmas song “Santa Baby,” died on Thursday at the age of 81.
Kitt died of colon cancer for which she was recently treated at Presbyterian Hospital in New York, her rep told Reuters.
According to Reuters, the cancer recurred after a period of remission.
“She came back strongly. She had been performing until two months ago,” Kitt’s rep told Reuters. “We had dates booked through 2009.”
A self-proclaimed “sex kitten,” Kitt was famous for the catlike purr she used in the role of Catwoman in the Batman TV series in the 1960s. During her career, which spanned six decades, Kitt won two Emmys and was nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.
“She loved cabaret performances,” her rep said. “If there was ever an opportunity to do a small intimate venue with about 150 people, that was always her preference.”
Dupri: Janet Is Not Pregnant
Rapper Jermaine Dupri broke his silence about rumors that he and Janet Jackson are splitting up — and talk that she’s expecting.
“No she is not pregnant and yes we’re still together,” Jermaine writes on his website, Global14.com. He adds, “It baffles me how y’all let these blogs and magazines control your lives.”
Janet and Jermaine have been dating for four years.
